Swiss Army Uniform Documentation

We have published 2 books showing the history of uniforms of all troops of the Swiss Army from the 1852 to about 1946.
The uniforms of the Swiss troops were only really standardized from 1852. Before that, each canton was responsible for the uniform and so the uniforms differed in appearance. The clothing as well as the equipment underwent many changes and was adapted to new tactics and weapons. The biggest changes in the 20th century were made at the beginning of the First and Second World Wars. In these books all these different uniforms are shown. The next big change followed in 1949, and will perhaps be edited in another volume.

In addition to the tunics, headgear and pants are also shown. Also illustrated are all the insignia of the branches of arms, degree insignia, specialist insignia, awards as well as officers' uniforms.

Unfortunately, the books are only available in German. However, the books are very picture-heavy and get by with little text.

Swiss Army Uniforms of the first World War and before

The first volume shows the "colored" uniforms from the foundation of the Swiss Army right after the Sonderbund War until before the First World War on 156 pages.
